On Sunday, kidnappers abducted the Onogie of Udo-Eguare, a traditional leader in Edo State’s Igueben Local Government Area. According to the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, the number of additional victims involved remains unclear.
Yamu reported that the Onogie was ambushed while traveling as a passenger on a motorcycle, and the rider was shot dead during the attack. The kidnappers then took the traditional ruler.
A police statement indicated that, after receiving the report, Edo State Commissioner of Police Betty Otimenyin immediately dispatched tactical teams, including the Mobile Force, to the area in hopes of rescuing the victims and apprehending the kidnappers. The Area Commander is leading the operation on-site.
