Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Cameroon’s Bryan Mbeumo are set for a tense battle to reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with only one likely to advance through the African play-offs.
Nigeria will meet Gabon, while Cameroon face DR Congo in Thursday’s semi-finals in Rabat, Morocco. Winners will contest Sunday’s final for a place in the intercontinental play-offs next March.
Osimhen, in top form after recent hat-tricks for Nigeria and Galatasaray, leads a Super Eagles side heavily favoured against Gabon. Meanwhile, Gabon, despite having the best record among runners-up, remain underdogs.
Africa already has nine confirmed World Cup qualifiers, with one more slot up for grabs through these decisive play-offs.
