Outrage rocked the Alakia–Gbagi area of Ibadan after a 14-year-old student, Kehinde Alade, was killed by a stray bullet allegedly fired by a police officer during a traffic enforcement operation. Residents protested by marching to the Oyo State Secretariat with the boy’s body, demanding justice.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) equally condemned the killing, issuing authorities a 24-hour ultimatum to ensure justice.
The boy was reportedly in a car driven by his father, identified as Odunayo Alade, who was attempting to flee after being caught driving against traffic. Officers say they aimed at the tyres to stop the vehicle, but the bullet struck the child instead.
The officer involved is now in custody, and both the police and the state government have launched investigations.
