90 Classy Cheers to the Legendary Pa BENSON IDONIJE

The Nigerian culture connoisseur, mostly recognized for being the first band manager for Afrobeats maestro FELA, had family and close relatives celebrate his 90th Anniversary. In attendance were close relatives including his grandson BurnaBoy, who also gave an appreciation speech to the former music broadcaster and critic.

Pa Benson Idonije was born 1936 in Otuo, a town in Owan East local government area of Edo State, Nigeria. He studied Communications Engineering at Yaba College of Technology and began writing jazz-related articles and columns for several newspapers including the Morning Post Newspaper in 1953 and later working as a writer for the Guardian, where he wrote columns like “Evergreen”, “Sound and Screen” and “All That Jazz”.

DID YOU KNOW? He was part of the pioneering group of broadcasters who started Radio Nigeria 2 (now Metro FM) in 1977. Later going on to be appointed as the Principal lecturer & Training Officer of the FRCN Training School. He has also published 3 Books: •Dis Fela Sef •The Great Highlife Party •All That Jazz.
