Security was reinforced at the PDP national headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday as rival factions prepared to hold separate meetings at the same venue. Armed police and patrol vehicles were stationed outside the secretariat, where factional national secretary Samuel Anyanwu — aligned with Nyesom Wike — arrived early and took control of his office.
Anyanwu said he remains national secretary until December and confirmed he requested security to prevent disruptions, citing plans by another group to stage a parallel meeting.
The party’s crisis escalated after factions loyal to Wike and Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde scheduled competing NEC meetings following a contentious convention in Ibadan that produced a new National Working Committee and expelled several Wike loyalists.
Kabiru Turaki’s leadership also set a meeting for the same day and venue, insisting Wike’s allies no longer have legitimacy after their expulsion and warning that any parallel operation at the secretariat would be treated as interference.
