ABUJA — Peter Obi, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has confirmed he will run again in 2027 and is willing to serve only one four-year term. Speaking on an X Space session with supporters, Obi ruled out any joint ticket with Atiku Abubakar and emphasized the need for a strong coalition focused on national recovery.
He stated that coalition talks are ongoing, but must prioritize urgent issues like insecurity, economic revival, and food security. “If the coalition isn’t about fixing Nigeria, count me out,” he said.
Obi pledged to stabilize the country within two years if elected, stressing his focus on security, education, and poverty eradication. He also criticized President Tinubu for spending time abroad while violence persists in places like Benue and Zamfara.
Addressing internal Labour Party matters, Obi reaffirmed support for the Nenadi Usman-led faction and efforts to gain INEC recognition. He reiterated his belief in presidential rotation between the North and South, and promised a corruption-free, cost-effective government if elected.
Obi vowed that in 2027, votes would count, and a non-violent path would be followed to ensure a credible election outcome.
