Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has called on the Federal Government to declare a “national war” on insecurity in Nigeria. Obi made this appeal following reports of over 100 people killed in violent attacks across Borno, Sokoto, Katsina, and Edo states over the weekend.
Speaking on social media, Obi described the situation as a full-blown security emergency. He highlighted recent tragic incidents, including the killing of eight NSCDC officers, the abduction of a Chinese national in Edo, and the massacre of five soldiers alongside dozens of civilians in Borno. Obi warned that the death toll rivals figures seen in countries at war, insisting that urgent and decisive action must be taken.
He also condoled with the families of the victims, calling for swift justice and urging the government to put foreign trips on hold to focus on tackling insecurity at home.
