Former Anambra State Governor and national figure Peter Gregory Obi visited Strasbourg to attend sessions at the European Parliament. During his stay, he held meetings with several committees from Foreign Affairs and Civil Liberties, to the Africa‑EU Delegation, Transport, Tourism, and Development.
Peter Obi urged European lawmakers to deepen ties with Africa, particularly Nigeria. He described Africa as a vast continent with huge potential: abundant resources, a large population and youthful energy. He cautioned, however, that weak leadership and corruption have kept many parts of the continent trapped in poverty.
He appealed for support to promote good governance, democratic integrity, and investment in critical areas like security, power supply, education, healthcare, and youth entrepreneurship. According to Peter Obi, helping Africa succeed also benefits Europe making stronger cooperation a win‑win.
Obi concluded that with transparent leadership and international collaboration, “A new Nigeria is possible.”
