Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has encouraged the Super Eagles to remain resilient after Nigeria crashed out of the 2026 World Cup playoffs. Nigeria lost 4–3 on penalties to DR Congo after a 1–1 draw in Rabat, marking their second straight World Cup miss.
In a message on X, Obi praised the team’s effort and reminded the players that representing Nigeria carries the nation’s hopes. He urged them not to be discouraged, saying great teams grow stronger through setbacks. Obi called on the squad to regroup with discipline and focus, expressing confidence that they can bounce back.
He ended by telling the players to “keep soaring,” adding that Nigeria still believes in them. Meanwhile, coach Eric Chelle alleged that a DR Congo staff member used “voodoo” during the penalty shootout.
