A police officer in Niger State, ASP Shafi’u Usman Bawa, has allegedly died by suicide in Kontagora town.

The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred on February 8. Bawa was reportedly found hanging from the ceiling.

His father, Usman Bawa, a resident of the Rigasa area in Kontagora, reported the case to the authorities. The officer’s body was taken to the General Hospital Kontagora, where medical personnel confirmed his death.

Following Islamic traditions, his remains were handed over to his family for burial. Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, with further updates expected in due course.
