R&B maestro Freddie Jackson, renowned for hits ‘You Are My Lady’ and ‘Rock Me Tonight’, has passed at the age of 70. His family confirmed his passing through an Instagram post.

The legendary R&B singer died just three days after turning 70. His family shared the news on Freddie Jackson’s Instagram handle. The news arrived while fans remembered Freddie Jackson and the songs that made him one of the well known voices in R&B during the 1980s.

Jackson’s music defined the R&B scene with multiple chart topping singles and memorable collaborations.

“To everyone who ever sang along, danced, or felt something when Freddie took the stage: thank you. You were family to him, and he carried your love with him always.”

The songs that made Freddie Jackson a star

His big break came in the 1980s. His 1985 debut album, “Rock Me Tonight,” put him on top of the R&B charts. “Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times Sake)” spent six weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart.

Then came “You Are My Lady.” The song became Jackson’s signature hit and reached the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. There were plenty of other hits, too. “Tasty Love,” “Have You Ever Loved Somebody” and “Jam Tonight” all became part of his long run in R&B.

Jackson eventually had 10 No. 1 R&B singles. His songs were often played on romantic playlists and became part of weddings, celebrations and other important moments for fans.

Jackson’s music also remained familiar outside R&B. His songs have been sampled by hip-hop artists too.

The family reflected on that lasting connection in its message. “For decades he gave us the songs that became the soundtrack to our love stories, our celebrations, and our most treasured memories. That gift will live on forever,” the family said.

The statement continued, “Please keep his family, friends, and loved ones in your prayers during this difficult time. Details regarding arrangements and how to honor his legacy will be shared in the coming days.”

“Rest in peace, Freddie. Your legacy and your voice will live on forever.”
