U.S. lawmaker Riley Moore condemned the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from Government Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, urging prayers for the victims and the slain vice principal. He described the attack as occurring in a “Christian enclave,” prompting swift correction from former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad, who said the community and victims are Muslim.
The exchange added to ongoing tensions over foreign claims of religious-based violence in Nigeria. The Federal Government says it is working urgently to secure the students’ safe return.
