Russia launched a major assault on Ukraine from late Tuesday to early Wednesday, firing over 400 drones, artillery, and a ballistic missile, defying former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent push for a peace deal.
The attacks killed one woman and injured more than 25 people across several regions. A missile strike on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s hometown, Kryvyi Rih, disrupted power and water supplies and wounded at least 15 people, including a 17-year-old boy in critical condition, officials said.
The overnight bombardment also injured eight in Vinnytsia and three in Kharkiv. Ukraine’s air force reported the use of 28 Iranian-designed Shahed drones and an Iskander missile launched from Crimea.
This escalation came just two days after Trump threatened harsh sanctions unless a peace agreement is reached within 50 days to end the three-year conflict. Despite Russia’s stated openness to talks, no new negotiations have been scheduled since the last round over a month ago.
Meanwhile, Russia has intensified its summer offensive, combining battlefield advances with drone, missile, and artillery strikes. Trump claimed Monday he had secured more U.S. air defense support for Ukraine after expressing frustration with Moscow’s refusal to agree to a ceasefire.
