Super Falcons secure spot in the Wafcon2026 Quater-Finals

Defending champions of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.-Nigeria’s Super Falcons, booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 edition, in a roller-coaster 6-2 victory over Egypt.

The Super Falcons entered the final Group C match needing a convincing win to keep their hopes of progressing alive, and they proved again what champions are made of, with six time African’s Women’s footballer of the Year-Asisat Oshoala opening the scoring from the penalty spot in the 21st minute then Gift Monday doubling the lead in first-half stoppage time after being set up by Rinsola Babajide.

Egypt reduced the deficit through Nadin Yasser Ezzat Ghazy’s penalty, the Super Falcons restored their two goal lead with second-half substitute Uchenna Kanu getting on the scoresheet to make it 3-1 in the 57th minute, while Christy Ucheibe converted another penalty in the 81st minute.

Ghazy grabbed her second goal for Egypt few minutes later but Captain Rasheedat Ajibade restored Nigeria’s three goal cushion from the penalty spot then going on to set up Joy Omewa, who completed the scoring in the ninth minute of stoppage time.

As the Super Falcons fought to secure their spot in the quaterfinals, the game between Zambia and Malawi was going on. It ended 2-1 in favor of Zambia, but the result wasn’t enough to see them through.

Nigeria advanced to the knockout stage to play rivals Cameroon, as they continue pursuit of a record-extending 11th WAFCON title.
