To mark his 74th birthday on Sunday, March 29, 2026, President Bola Tinubu announced the creation of a dedicated welfare fund for the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Speaking at his Presidential Villa residence in Abuja, the President pledged to donate all his salaries earned since assuming office in May 2023 to serve as the seed funding for this initiative.
The President directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to establish a special account specifically for this fund, independent from existing insurance or pension schemes, noting that the dedicated fund is designed to offer targeted assistance to service members injured in the line of duty, as well as the widows, widowers, and children of fallen soldiers.
“Today, from all the salaries that I’ve earned, the accountant general established an account to fund those men and women who signed up the Amsoy, who have lost their husbands and wives, create a special funding for them”
President Tinubu emphasized that this support should not be viewed as charity, but as a “duty” the nation owes to its protectors. The President urged state governors, National Assembly members, and the private sector to contribute to the fund.
He reassured citizens of his administration’s commitment to providing security of lives and properties.
