President Bola Tinubu has called on media professionals to continue holding the government accountable but to do so with fairness and national responsibility.
Speaking at the All Nigerian Editors Conference in Abuja, the President acknowledged the media’s crucial role in shaping public opinion and deepening democracy. He urged journalists to report truthfully and criticise government policies constructively, saying their goal should be to build rather than destroy.
Tinubu also noted that while social media has expanded access to information, it has equally increased the spread of misinformation. He stressed the importance of verification, balance, and professional judgment in news reporting to preserve public trust.
