President Bola Tinubu has directed that police officers attached to VIPs be withdrawn and reassigned to core policing duties nationwide.

He said many communities lack adequate police presence and need strengthened security. VIP protection will now be handled by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The president also approved the recruitment of 30,000 new police personnel and plans to upgrade training facilities. Service chiefs and the DSS director-general attended the security meeting where the decision was made.
