UNILAG Targets Global Visibility, Celebrates 56th Convocation with Over 16,000 Graduands

The University of Lagos says it is keen to improve it’s brand visibility, strengthen collaboration and create a global learning environment that inspired critical thinking and opportunities for it’s students.

Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola made this known at a news conference in preparation for the 56th Convocation ceremony of the university schedule to commence from the 16th of January with a Jumaat service down to the 25th with a thanksgiving service at the University chapel.

The Vice Chancellor explained that over sixteen thousand graduands are expected to convocate while the university recorded over one thousand two hundred students who made first class and distinction; representing a total of seven percent of the graduands, while eight thousand graduands also made the Upper and Lower classes of degree.

Professor Ogunsola noted that graduands of first degree and diploma will convocate next week Tuesday and students from the College of Medicine, Engineering, Law and Distance learning will also hav their ceremony on Wednesday and while Thursday too will have students from the school of post-graduate convocate.

She emphasized that some notable Nigerians will be honoured in doctoral degree amongst whom are Chief Kalu Agabi SAN and Jubril Adewale Tinubu.

While highlighting some key achievements of the university in the last one year, the Vice chancellor stressed that University has successfully renovated her hostels and also working add to increase the number of students it currently house from ten thousand to about seventeen thousand, establishment of additional seven faculties and university raked in over twenty four billion naira in grants which stems mainly from health.
