A Pentagon assessment has found that recent US airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities delayed but did not destroy its nuclear capabilities. Despite targeting Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan with bunker-buster bombs, Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles and most centrifuges remain intact, intelligence sources told CBS News.
The strikes caused surface-level damage and sealed some facility entrances, but underground infrastructure largely survived. Iran claimed it had evacuated sites in advance and suffered no major setback.
President Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth dismissed the Pentagon’s findings, insisting the attacks were highly effective. Critics, including Rep. Brad Sherman, questioned the mission’s impact, citing unclear evidence of damage to uranium supplies.
Satellite images showed surface craters but no confirmation of underground destruction. Expert David Albright said the program could be rebuilt with time.
Iran responded by firing missiles at a US base in Qatar. No casualties were reported. Tensions remain high as both Washington and Tehran harden positions, complicating any potential return to nuclear talks.
