The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating examination malpractice in Nigeria by transitioning to Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for WAEC and NECO by 2026.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, revealed during a televised interview yesterday, that CBT would begin with objective papers in November 2025, with full implementation—covering essay sections—by May/June 2026.
He acknowledged concerns about cheating, especially in WAEC and NECO exams, and emphasized that technology is key to addressing this issue.
Alausa also pointed to the poor 2025 UTME results, should not be viewed as a national setback but rather as a realistic reflection of the level of academic preparedness among students when examinations are conducted properly, adding that while JAMB has nearly eliminated cheating, WAEC and NECO still face significant challenges.
