Belgium’s national football association has dismissed head coach Domenico Tedesco after underwhelming performances at Euro 2024 and in the Nations League.
The Red Devils, led by Tedesco since February 2023, were eliminated in the Euro 2024 Round of 16 by France and finished third in their Nations League group after two more defeats to France. The team now faces a relegation play-off against Ukraine in March.
Tedesco acknowledged the team’s potential, stating, “This squad is still developing and will make waves in the future.” RBFA CEO Peter Willems thanked him for integrating young players and contributing to the team’s growth.
The decision to part ways had been anticipated but delayed due to the RBFA’s financial constraints. Tedesco, under contract until 2026, reportedly earned €1.7 million annually. Five of his support staff were also let go.
While the RBFA has not set a timeline for appointing a successor, reports suggest candidates may include Rudi Garcia, Thierry Henry, or Mark van Bommel.
