The 25th of August 2026 was brought to mourning as Legendary Country Music Icon Dolly Parton passed on at the age 80. Her management said the country superstar passed away following “a brief battle with cancer”.

Fans and celebrities around the world have been pouring in tribute messages. Multi-talented legendary singer- Barbra Streisand called her “A true force of nature”. Pop-star Katy Perry described her as “glam, funny and kind”. Beyoncé called her “the north star”. “It is hard to imagine living in a world without Dolly,” says Beatles star Sir Paul McCartney.

Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, born January 19, 1946, was the fourth of 12 children living in a one room cabin in Pittman Center, Tenesse. Parton began performing as a child, singing on local radio and television programs. At 13, she recorded the single “Puppy Love”. She signed with Combine Publishing shortly after her arrival in Nashville.

The legendary American singer-songwriter, actress and businesswoman, dubbed “The Queen of Country”, had a career that stretched above six decades, with over 300 songs. She is ranked among the bestselling music artists of all time, with more than 100 million records sold, 25 Number 1 Billboard Country singles(the most by a woman), 44 career Top10 country albums(a record for any artist), and 110 career charted singles. Her final solo studio album, Rockstar(2023), was her highest charting album on Billboards Chart.

She received National&Global Honors including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame(1984), the National Medal of Arts (2004), the Kennedy Center Honor (2006), the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (2011) and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award (2025). Highly rated as one of the greatest performers of country music in history, earning 11 Grammys and 3 Emmy Awards, as well as nominations for two Academy Awards, six Golden Globes and a Tony Award. She was also known for her cultural influence and philanthropy via Dollypark (her themepark)& Dollywood Foundation. She helped donate 300 million books to young children through her reading initiatives. Her legacy transcends all genres of music and remained popular in an era of political division.

Parton’s fans have left flowers and balloons, while landmarks across the US, including the Empire State Building in New York, have sparkled pink for the Tennessee icon while President Donald Trump ordered flags to be lowered for a week.
