The Federal Government has inaugurated a 37-member tripartite Committee to recommend a “new national minimum wage” for Nigerian workers.
Vice President Kashim Shettima who represented President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration ceremony held yesterday at the Presidential Villa, urged the committee to surpass the basic social protection plan for workers – as the current national wage ‘expires’ in March 2024, while calling for collective bargain in good faith.
He directed Ministers and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to personally attend the meeting or be represented by their respective Permanent Secretaries. Similarly, State Governors are also to attend or be represented by their deputies.
