The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered multiple drug smuggling attempts involving bizarre concealment methods, including frozen snails, electrical bulbs, and women’s clothing.
The drugs, intended for shipment to the US, UK, and Democratic Republic of Congo, were intercepted at Murtala Muhammed International Airport and a Lagos courier firm. NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi confirmed that two suspects have been arrested.
On October 7, cargo agent Boladale Riliwan was caught hiding 15 parcels of skunk inside rechargeable bulbs bound for the DRC. Days later, UK-based health worker Olawale Oyebola Hakeemot was found with 2,300 Tramadol pills stashed in frozen snails. Another attempt to ship 810 bromazepam tablets hidden in female clothing to the US was blocked on October 16.
