The Nigerian Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to sack the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) Executive Vice-Chairman, Babatunde Irukera.
According to a letter read at plenary on Wednesday by President of the Senate, GodsWill Akpabio, the President said Irukera was removed due to his inability to effectively perform the duties of his office, noting that it has become pertinent to restructure and reposition critical agencies of the Federal Government for efficiency and effectiveness.
According to the FCCPC Act, the President needs the approval of the National Assembly to sack the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
After deliberations, the request was put to a voice vote where the ayes had it and then it was approved by the Senate President.
