Senate today raised an alarm over the alleged influx of substandard Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol, and Automotive Gas Oil or diesel into the country’s market.
In a matter of urgent national importance, Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong observed that on June 16, a report revealed that 12 diesel cargoes conveying 660 kilotons of the product, were exported by refineries to offshore Togo for distribution to Nigeria.

According to him, the quality of the said diesel was below the Nigerian standard in terms of flash and Sulphur levels.
Consequently, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, set up an ad-hoc committee chaired by the Senate leader, to investigate the continued importation of hazardous petroleum products, and report back to the house in three weeks.
