Trump Slams Putin After Massive Russian Assault on Ukraine: ‘He’s Gone Absolutely Crazy’
Former President Donald Trump on Sunday sharply criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling him “absolutely CRAZY” following Russia’s largest aerial assault on Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war three years ago.
“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever.”
Just hours earlier, Trump voiced similar concerns to reporters, saying, “I’m not happy with what Putin is doing. He’s killing a lot of people, and I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin.”
The remarks came after Moscow launched a wave of overnight strikes on Ukraine across Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, killing at least 29 people and injuring dozens more, according to Ukrainian officials. The Saturday-to-Sunday bombardment involved more drones and missiles than any single attack since the war began.
Trump’s comments mark a notable shift in tone and come at a critical moment in the conflict. Western leaders are likely to interpret the statement as a sign of growing frustration from Washington over Putin’s refusal to agree to a proposed 30-day ceasefire.
On Monday, the Kremlin responded by downplaying Trump’s remarks, dismissing them as an “emotional reaction.”
