Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court has approved the request of Godwin Emefiele, the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank, to travel outside the FCT. However, the court has mandated that Emefiele must remain within the country during his travel.
Emefiele, who was on bail terms restricted to the FCT, sought a variation of these conditions through his lawyer, Mathew Bukka, SAN. The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) did not object to the request.
The EFCC’s counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, urged the court to ensure that Emefiele provides a written undertaking to stay in Nigeria if the variation is granted.
Additionally, the charges against Emefiele were amended from 6 to 20. The revised charges include criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, procurement fraud, and conspiracy to commit felony.
