David Thomas, the iconic lead singer of Pere Ubu, has passed away at the age of 71. His death occurred on Wednesday, April 23, at his home in Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, England, after a prolonged illness, as confirmed by the band in a Facebook post.
Thomas was surrounded by his wife and daughter in his final moments, listening to music from the rock band MC5. The band also shared that Thomas had expressed his wish to be returned to his home in Pennsylvania, where he wanted to be “thrown in the barn.”

At the time of his passing, Thomas had been working on a new album with Pere Ubu, which he knew would be his final project. The band announced they will continue mixing and finalizing the album so his last music can be released. Additionally, Thomas had left instructions to continue cataloging the band’s live recordings via the official Bandcamp page.
Thomas was also in the process of writing an autobiography, which will now be completed by his bandmates. In their tribute, Pere Ubu shared his own words: “My name is David F—ing Thomas… and I’m the lead singer of the best f—ing rock n roll band in the world.”
