Take-It-Back Movement Protests Nationwide Despite Police Warning

Protesters under the aegis of the Take-It-Back Movement defied police warning and staged protests in Lagos, Abuja, Oyo, Rivers, and other states.

According to the organisers, among their concerns is the alleged misuse of the Cybercrime Act, the worsening economic hardship in the country, and the state of emergency imposed by President Bola Tinubu on Rivers State.

Spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force Muyiwa Adejobi, had earlier urged the movement to cancel its planned nationwide protest, describing the timing as “ill-timed”, especially as it coincided with the National Police Day celebration, aimed at honoring the achievements of its Police institution.

Clad in orange berets, the protesters yesterday, led by Juwon Sanyaolu, began their rally in Lagos at the Ikeja Under Bridge, but were blocked from reaching the Lagos State Assembly complex, where they intended to submit a letter containing their demands.

In Oyo, the demonstrators held their peaceful protest in Ibadan, the state capital, with security operatives on standby to ensure no breach of peace.

However, in Port Harcourt, police officers fired teargas at the protesters, who had converged on Isaac Boro Park, chasing and beating up some of them. Police operatives also dispersed protesters in Abuja with tear gas.
