Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has announced a meet between President Bola Tinubu and power generation companies (GENCOs) to discuss a N4 trillion debt.Â
The Minister assured that the government will pay a significant portion of the debt immediately, with the balance settled within six months.
The government also plans to implement structural reforms, including full liberalization of the power sector and cost-reflective tariffs, while providing targeted subsidies for disadvantaged Nigerians.
The GENCOs have warned of a national emergency and potential collapse of the power ecosystem if the debt isn’t addressed urgently.
