Israeli airstrikes in Gaza on Wednesday resulted in at least 11 deaths, including eight members of one family, according to Gaza’s civil defense agency. The strikes come amid Israel’s plan to intensify its offensive in the region. Israel’s far-right finance minister had previously called for Gaza to be “entirely destroyed,” drawing widespread international criticism.
Mahmud Bassal, a civil defense spokesman, reported that at least one child was among the victims of Wednesday’s bombardment. The deadliest strike hit the southern city of Khan Yunis, where eight members of the Al-Qidra family were killed, and 12 others were injured. The ages of the deceased ranged from two years to 54 years old.
In addition, an Israeli airstrike on a home in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza killed three people and wounded eight.
The Israeli military has yet to comment on the attacks.
Israel resumed its military campaign in Gaza on March 18 after a two-month truce, which had followed Hamas’s October 2023 attack. Since then, Gaza’s health ministry reported over 2,500 deaths in the territory, bringing the war’s total death toll to 52,615. Meanwhile, Hamas’s attack resulted in 1,218 deaths in Israel, mostly civilians.
Hamas declared on Tuesday that further ceasefire talks with Israel were futile, accusing Israel of waging a “hunger war” on Gaza. The United Nations has repeatedly warned of an impending humanitarian catastrophe, with famine threats growing due to Israel’s ongoing aid blockade.
