The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has put on hold their scheduled daily nationwide protest following a closed-door meeting with key Senate officials on Tuesday. NARD President, Emeka Orji, confirmed this development to PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday morning.
An announcement from the office of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, had also hinted at the doctors’ decision in a statement shared with the same newspaper.
During a phone conversation with our reporter, Mr. Orji stated that the planned protest, initially set for Wednesday (today), has been suspended. He added that there would be further updates “within the next 72 hours.”
“We engaged in discussions with the Senate President, as well as the majority and minority leaders and Whip today,” he said.
