Police IG beef up security on Abuja-Kaduna road, says rescue efforts ongoing to free Nabeeha’s sisters

News

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun says the police have commenced a comprehensive plan to rescue Six young girls abducted in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja.

Egbetokun said the Force Headquarters is diligently coordinating efforts to address the sad incident and prevent any further occurrence, having ordered the deployment of police officers with guarded security equipment to be stationed on the Abuja- Kaduna expressway, and ensure the safety of travellers.

He however noted that the sensitivity of the situation necessitates discretion, and as a result, specific details are being kept confidential so as not to compromise operations.

Meanwhile, there are reports of efforts by Nigerians to crowdfund and raise the
ransom demanded by the abductors.

In fact, a former Minister for Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, has disclosed via his X page that one of his friends, whose name was not mentioned, had pledged to pay ₦50 million as ransom to kidnappers to secure the release of the five remaining sisters.

It is understood that Five girls were abducted alongside their eldest sister, identified as Nabeeha and their father on January 2, 2024, but latest reports indicate that the kidnappers killed Nabeeha on Friday, January 12, 2024, after her father, whom they freed to go and get ₦60 million ransom for his daughters’ release, failed to meet up with the deadline they had given him.
