The Nigerian Senate has advised Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, to submit a written apology following her accusations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
This recommendation was presented during Thursday’s plenary session by Senator Neda Imasuen, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions.
The Senate dismissed Natasha’s allegations that Akpabio was deliberately suppressing her voice in legislative discussions, calling them baseless.
In addition to the apology, the Senate outlined further disciplinary measures, including:
- A six-month suspension from legislative duties, beginning March 6, 2025.
- The immediate return of all Senate-issued properties in her possession.
- A restriction barring her from accessing the legislative chambers during her suspension.
The controversy stems from a recent confrontation in the Senate after Natasha objected to the reassignment of her seat by Akpabio. Upon arriving at the chamber, she discovered that her nameplate had been removed and her seat reassigned, leading her to challenge the decision.
